India’s rapidly expanding urban areas rely on migrant workers for the development and sustainability of the developed infrastructure. Due to the vast array of opportunities present in the cities, we can see a lot of people migrating to cities in search of a better life. One such community is the Mahatma Phule Vasahat of Tadiwala road slum, which we surveyed. Tadiwala road slum is densely packed with a population of around 1 lakh. The families comprise of 4-5 members living in small dwellings. Male members mainly work as contract laborers for businesses like painting, carpentry, construction etc. Some of them have small shops selling petty items while some are hawkers. Most females work as a house help in nearby communities.
