Your growing support is once again making a difference in the lives of underprivileged children! We are pleased to announce the opening of an Education Activity Center for the children of migratory construction workers at a construction site in Ambegaon, Pune – Maharashtra.
These construction workers are low income families who travel from place to place for work. In most cases, both husband and wife work during the day at the construction site as daily wage laborers. They live in huts near the construction site. Their children end up spending their day either hanging around the site or taking care of their younger siblings. Not only these children have no opportunity for schooling or education, but they remain unaware as how education could change their lives.

The EAC provides a safe and nurturing place for children, age groups varying from infants to secondary school. The goal is to promote literacy by teaching them how to read and write, with an ultimate goal of enrolling them in regular schools nearby to break the cycle of illiteracy. The program also helps them develop good civic sense, hygiene and life skills. Specially developed teaching tools and trained, passionate teachers play a major role in the success of the program. Every morning the teachers go out to the ‘basti’ and bring the kids in to the school. This encourages attendance and discipline of getting to school in time. Well thought out daily lesson plans, regular monitoring of the progress of each child and continuous improvement in the program are clearly evident when you visit the center. The current enrollment is at 41 and growing. The teachers and supervisors are doing a fantastic job at keeping records and following the curriculum.

CHANCE Foundation started this education center by partnering with a local NGO in Pune – Door Step School. Both organizations share a common vison of empowering underprivileged children by helping them with their education and literacy. Accountability, transparency and maximizing impact from the available funds are the core values of both organizations. The project also leverages participation of the construction company by convincing them to share 30{293b8dad4cb98c3a41a420f1ff1e4b322a9e9b0e31253c8c496b8b464e48b47f} of cost in the form of space, infrastructure and a toilet for the center. CHANCE Foundation’s contribution is about $4,000 USD per year. Thanks for the generous support from all the CHANCE supporters. You are indeed making a difference!
